Changing landscapes

Species and habitats

Species respond to their surroundings in different ways and at different scales. Monitoring species and habitats can document occurrence and change, while also indicating how these developments relate to vegetation, habitat structure, environmental conditions and ecological processes.

Potential contributions

Surveys can focus on protected, invasive, rare or other priority species. FutureGrounds can contribute to the design and delivery of species and habitat monitoring, from botanical records and permanent sampling plots to mapping vegetation and habitat structure. Repeated observations can track changes in species composition, diversity and habitat quality, and help investigate possible drivers. Field data can be combined with drone, satellite, acoustic and other data sources to build a more holistic understanding of the system.

Relevant experience

Extensive research and practical experience in botany, vegetation ecology and biodiversity across Danish and international landscapes. The work spans species recording and community composition through to functional plant traits, vegetation structure and experimental studies of biodiversity and environmental impacts.
