Changing landscapes

Social-ecological perspectives

Nature projects are part of people’s everyday lives, values and connections to places. Local knowledge and participation can complement ecological observations and reveal different perspectives on what change means, including in urban nature.

Potential contributions

FutureGrounds can place ecological monitoring in a wider management and societal context. This may involve clarifying different objectives for an area, developing citizen science projects and combining local observations and knowledge with other ecological data sources. Scenarios and futures perspectives can help explore and communicate different directions of development, creating a broader basis for understanding, tracking and discussing ecological change.

Relevant experience

Experience in developing citizen science protocols and connecting observations collected by the public with scientific data and analyses. Research into different perspectives on nature and its management, together with experience of working with landowners and other stakeholders, provides a basis for engaging with different forms of knowledge and views on landscape change.
